San Antonio Texas horse carriages lawful business

Urge AG Ken Paxton to TAKE ACTION

San Antonio City Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee directed staff to draft options for phasing out horse-drawn carriage businesses. On December 12, 2024, the full council will decide whether to adopt one of three proposed timelines: 12 months, 24 months, or 36 months. Regardless of the timeline, the goal is clear—eliminate this historic industry entirely.

Beyond the legal implications, banning horse-drawn carriages would deal a severe economic blow to the businesses and individuals who depend on this industry. These operators contribute to the city’s economy, provide jobs, and attract tourism. Shutting them down in favor of an unproven alternative is a short-sighted decision with long-term consequences.

This issue is not just about horse-drawn carriages—it is part of a larger battle against the overreach of local governments and the growing influence of extremist special-interest groups. If San Antonio succeeds in banning horse-drawn carriages, it will set a dangerous precedent, emboldening animal rights groups to target other industries and businesses across Texas and beyond.

We ask that you send Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton a letter urging him to enforce the Regulatory Consistency Act which prohibits local governments from enacting ordinances that ban lawful, existing businesses.
